4th Annual Summer School Big Data for Peace & Justice

The Peace and Justice sector has already leveraged the use of new data streams, such as social media, mobile phone data or satellite imagery, to better serve vulnerable populations. As a result of this Data Revolution, lessons can be drawn from projects and prototypes that have been deployed in the field.
HumanityX is committed to exploring the opportunities that such technologies have to offer to the peace, justice and humanitarian sector. Every year the Big Data for Peace & Justice summer school provides a platform for practitioners, policy makers and innovators that are eager to expand their knowledge and skills in data-driven innovations in the peace, justice, and humanitarian sector.
About
The 4th edition of the summer school provides an in-depth exploration into the challenges and opportunities that lie in using data for peace, justice and humanitarian response. Throughout the 5-day programme, you will combine theory and lessons that are drawn from practice to address some major challenges in leveraging the Data Revolution.
The courses are especially tailored to meet the needs of organisations that work in sensitive environments. To meet such challenges, the programme allows the development of the right set of skills to design data-driven innovation.
The annual summer school Big Data for Peace & Justice by HumanityX will take place 28 August – 1 September in The Hague, The Netherlands.
Programme
Our speakers will lend their expertise using a Theory, Think and Action labs format: a mix of academic teaching, presentations by practitioners and hands-on workshops. Over the course of the week, you will work in team-contexts to address particular challenges brought forward by the experts, yourself, or other participants.
This year’s programme includes various thought leaders and experts working on data-driven innovation in the peace, justice and humanitarian sector, with contributions from Leiden University, NOHA/University of Groningen, UN OCHA, UN Global Pulse, International Criminal Court (ICC), World Bank, World Vision, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law, Institute for Economics and Peace, Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs and many more!
